Hi. I've a FR-315S laptop with a 2x DVD RW drive. Had problems using 1-4x blank DVD RW disks. Each time a box comes up saying 'the disc has not been recognised'. Is there an update avaiable for my laptop or any suggestions about what make of DVD RW discs are suitable - have already tried Philips and Verbatim.
Thanks
Zak
any updates will be at www.vaio-link.com.
Those disks should work ok, even if a disk doesn't burn well it would be recognised. Have you made sure it's a + or - drive and bought the right type of disk to go with it?
it's a +/- drive so these disks - which are + should work but they're not even being recognised by the re-writer. Do you think if i found a 1-2x blank disc rather than a 1-4x speed compatible one they may work? - as my rewriter is 2x?
Speed is not the issue, you need to find disks which use Ritek Grade 4 layering.
ebuyer.com has some.
I had the same problem. Again trying to get the A115B to recognise the DVD+RW.
In the end I got there by reinstalling the driver for the device ( for my notebook it was the U55 version 2.5b driver).
This didn't work first time but eventually it got there.
Thanks for the info Jack.
thanks for the advice but how do i know which disks use Ritek Grade 4 layering? is there any specific info on the packet/label of the discs?
thanks
On eBuyer it's stated in the description.
On some packages they tell you, others omit it because they'd rather no say
thanks for the info. As i'm new to all of this, could you let me know in simple terms just what Ritek Grade 4 layering is and how this affects my DVD rewriter.
Another thing, you mentioned in an earlier e-mail that the problem is nothing to do with the speed of my rewriter. Does Sony usually offer firmware upgrades which would change the speed of my rewirter? i know they offer other firmware updates but what about the speed?
Finally, if in the future the speed of dvd rewriters increases to say 24x or whatever, but my rewriter is still at 2x speed will i be able to use blank dvd discs that say they are 24x comaptible - in other words are they compatible from 1x speed to 24x speed or only for the higher speeds. I hope this is clear!
thanks for yr help
Zak
I saw on the VAIO-Link website (http://www.vaio-link.com) Vaio Link that there was an applicable firmware upgrade for all QSI CDRW/DVD drives, the latest version is US06, which fixes recognition prblems. I don't know if this applies to your Vaio, but it definately applies to the K-Series.
Hope this helps
