DVD writer speed

Hi, I have a Sony VGN-A317M notebook. My DVD writer write CDs instead of 24x only 8x and the DVDs write only 1.5x speed. The type is: Sony DVD RW DW-D56A I've already done always the latest update. Is it wrong?What can I do?

Had a similar problem with the GRX, it never could do 16x as advertised.

I guess you could quiz VAIO-Link about it
