Flying with Vaios

Im about to fly to South Africa for 3 weeks and dont know how I will cope without it....
Is it safe to put these lovely machines through the airport X-Ray machines?

I fly regularly and have had no problems sticking my laptop through the machine.

Sometimes if you tell them it's a laptop they'll have a quick look and send you on your way.

A bit OT but for those that fly with their laptops often - what's your experience using in seat power available on some airlines? What kind of connectors are required? Would you recommend a surge protector?

I've no experience with this, so your experiences and advice would be most appreciated!
