H E L P !! burning problems
Hi
I've got a Sony Vaio model VGN-FS115S and have problems burning onto dvds.
The dvds are Philips DVD+RW. I have used Sonic Record Now.
When I make an attempt it spits our the dvd and tells me to put in a new cd. There is nothing wrong with the disc - they are brand new (got 25 of them).
Don't really think it should matter but it is the same whether I want to burn music or a movie.
So, does it matter which dvds I use? Can I not use the dvd but should I use cds instead? Are there a difference besides the amount you can save on them and does it really matter?
What do you suggest I do?
Thanks!

Are youtrying to make the recovery discs?
If that's the case for some reason it won't let you use DVD RW

Trying different brands of media is worth a try – Memorex, Verbatim, Sony, also try DVD -RW.
However, with this model, there is always the possibility that your optical drive is a DW-D56A and this may be the root cause. Do a search on this forum “DW-D56A”.

Does your model not support DVD+/-RW?

Apparently it should support DVD+/-RW
Have not made a recovery disc yet........ Had the laptop for 6 months but never really needed to burn anything or had time to play around with it (and do the receovery disc).
Will check if I have a DW-D56A drive.
Can't believe how quickly I got 3 responses! You guys are amazing.

To identify the model of optical drive, open either My Computer or Explorer, right click on the drive, select properties and click on the hardware tab.

I am afraid so.
As I suggested, do a search for DW-D56A on this forum (or Google) and all will be revealed:smileysad:
