Hi Barrie and welcome to the forum.
I am sorry to say that a 0200: Failure Fixed Disk error message usually mean that the hard disk is beyond recovery but just occasionally it is a cable connection problem. If you feel confident enough you could open up you notebook and check the seating of the connector between motherboard and HDD.
If the HDD is dead then data recovery is still possible but you would need to contact a specialist company. I am afraid that this option is far from cheap and usually reserved for corporations that need the data more than their money!
Any standard notebook hard drive will fit your notebook – 100 x 70 x 9.5mm
Hi there thanks for the response.
Is there any guides anyone can point me to for replacing my drive? I can confident with PC but never tried a notebook before.
So any 2.5" Notebook Drive will fit then i take it?
If somone can post instructions i would be most grateful.

HI
I have found that I can purchase a set of disks(I only want disk one)but the point here is the the disk supplied was not fit for purpose this was the first time it had been out of the case(how often does one need to do a full recovery with win xp I have found that winxp recovery works every time if you back up and make sensible restore points may be I'm lucky)
I have had three vaio's never a problem till now..I think the forum is great but the sony service leaves something to be desired ((IMHO))
LITEON back is superb...Topfield similar " Phillips service" is an oxymoron
I can get a legal winxp on ebay for £40 or get a hack for £10 but I gave that all up when I reached 65
Peace man(if you can remember the 60s you wern't there)
hI
sONY products are good but this first glitch has me wondering, I have been (my wife) off net for over a week with no replies If I have to purchase a set of disks when I don't think it's fair.so be it
But I will review my next upgrade which is to a 50 plasma ( was the sony tft) and probably buy a powerbook probably no better service but you have to protest the best way you can..
