Hi, I have a FS-215Z which comes with a 100gb Toshiba MK-1031GAS hard drive which is very quite and also runs cool, however it is only a 4200rpm drive and although its considered by some reviewers to be one of the better (fastest) 4200 drives I was wondering if there would be any benefit from a drive with a faster spin speed, 5400rpm perhaps?
I recently installed a Seagate Momentus (5400 & 8mb cache) into a friends Toshiba and to be honest I can't say that there was any noticeable difference in read/access times compared to the 4200 we replaced it with, that said, his Toshiba isn¿t a particularly fast machine to start with.
Have any of you guys upgraded the hard drive on your Vaio notebook and if so, was there much of a performance increase?
Unless you need it for video editing I would stick with what's there, as it's not a bad drive
