So now I have this to add to the list of faults with my FS Series.
Last weekend my computer crashed and decided it wasnt going to reboot, it got to mup.sys and then just restarted.
I tried to install windows on the second partition but whilst it worked to begin with, certain files and folders on the c: were inaccessable.
As I cannot send the laptop to technical support (I live in the USA now) I had to buy a new drive and install it. As I speak I am running a disk recovery utility on the old drive which I now have in an external enclosure.
I am about to log a fault with the e-support and only hope they will allow me to send the drive back (without the laptop) me thinks this wont work but its worth a try, I cannot be without my laptop.
The drive itself is reporting many bad clusters, I have also experienced Cyclic Redundancy errors on it.
Anyway, we will see.
I have a feeling they'll not support it, because you've taken it out of the unit.
But thats my opinion and I don't work for Sony
You are absolutely right Kee-Loo, sony wont take my hard disk back on its own. Oh well it was worth a try.
Just trying to work out the best way of getting it home.
