Laptop to GPS

I want to connect my VGN-A297XP to a GPS Receiver.
Is this possible and which interface cable I have to use?

I think most GPS' only connect to USB for updates, not for actual use on a PC, but I could be wrong

There are a number of possibilities for connecting a GPS receiver with your laptop.

To name a few that I know and have tried:
1. GPS receiver with a USB interface
2. GPS recevier with serial interface ( you'll probably need a serial to USB converter, since new laptops does not have a serial port)
3. GPS receiver with PS/2 connector
3. GPS receiver with bluetooth and connected to the laptop via bluetooth usb adapter.
