i tried to upgrade the memory with a 256mb PC133 133mhz sodimm, (i removed the battery first), but when i switch on i get a blank screen. Do i need to update the bios?
Hi CaptainFlint,
Welcome to Club Vaio,
According to the specs the maximum RAM supported by the PCG-F701 is 256MB, did you remove the original 64MB module...:smileyconfused:
Hi Thalmus, thanx for your time, yes i did remove the original 64mb stick, and replaced it with the 256mb stick i bought from pc world. Have i bought the right memory or should i have got pc100 instead? Thanx
Hi CaptainFlint,
The RAM originally installed in your Vaio should have been:
64MB 133Mhz 144-Pin PC100 SODIMM
Hi CaptainFlint and welcome,
I don’t think that your model will support a single 256 MB chip. Although the maximum memory is 256 MB I have a feeling that this needs to be shared between the slots.
To achieve this you will need two 128 MB modules, or alternatively a single 128 MB module in combination with your existing 64 MB module to achieve 192 MB.
Thanks Rich,
I was not aware of that...:smileyblush:
I think/hope that I am correct on this Thalamus but it is certainly the case with one of my old Vaio's that pre-dates the F701:smileygrin:
Right as usual Rich - I did wonder when Crucial recommended a max module of 128MB.
Have a look HERE
Thank you guys for your time and trouble, im back to the shop to change the mem stick to a 128mb pc100. wish me luck.
You're welcome, CaptainFlint..
Let us know how you get on..:smileyhappy:
