New Laptop freezing

Hi all
Got myself a "A317m"
Works fine apart from when playing games I get a screen freeze, sometimes accompanied with a blue screen of death and restarts.
Error logs point to the x600 ati card, driver or hardware fault.
I have tried it with 3 different games and crashed on all three, dvd's have no prob.
My questions is has anybody else had this prob, would ati drivers help (from there website) as there are no updates from sony.
How do you isolate this kind of problem, what can I do to see if its hardware or software related, not sure if I can play these games in safe mode with standard vga drivers.
Cpu temps are @ 55-60 idle????? Is this normal for a centrino 1.7

Error codes are useless as they they don't pinpoint to anything when you research them. Unless you are a TSE.

Any responses apreciated

PS I have blowed any dust out of fan/vents with compressed air, not that I think they needed it.

Is it time for RMA already???

Ok Thanks
I didn't notice that feature in the ATI Properties.
Problem is I do not have the Laptop here now and am not prepared to have it back to go through trial and error Procedures, when to me it sounds like its faulty, Sony are refusing to help me unless I have the Laptop infront of me, so my options are very limited.
Just want to hear from other users with the same laptop before I request a full refund, although I am more than likely gonna go for it since whatever the cause to me its simply not acceptable.
If its faulty I am gonna get a refund and go elsewhere to buy one from, if not goodbye Sony from me and maybe a few:smileygrin: others.

Sony don't seem to be very helpful do they? They want it their way or the highway.

Just thought I would Post this:
ATI Contradicting Sony Vaio Technical Support

Taken From ATI Website in reference to the x600 Mobility.

The business user will have the performance needed to create vibrant presentations that come alive in 3D, while simultaneously getting the piece of mind that comes with the stability and reliability associated with ATI¿s Mobility¿ Radeon® product line.

You can deliver a video rich multimedia presentation, play intense games at the highest settings , or view a full-length DVD movie without searching for a power outlet.

See for yourselves

Link Link

And here is me who is testing Games that will work with a G-force 3 at high settings, and an ATI x600 won't play them at all with settings to minimum.
hhhmmm, very strange, wonder what ATI will say if I give them a bell.
Only thing I like about Sony is there Members

Nuff said

hey there, i have a A317M myself, and i can say that even DOOM3 or HL² worked in HQ fine for me, without updating the drivers or something. so my guess, its a definite hardware problem, you should turn it back.

lol @ Mr sarcy
Yes I am 100% sure that it may, possibly be faulty.

Seriously, having heard that though won't put me off Sony's Products totaly, just there tec support, which soon I won't need anyway, and as far as returns we all have our Statutory Rights.
