RAM upgrade

i am trying to upgrade the memory for my vaio vgn-fs285H, i want to remove one of the 256mb chips and replace it by a 512mb. Can i use any pc2700 sodimm chip (333mHz)? Unfortunately my laptop isn't included in the crucial selector.

Sony recommends i use their vgpmm512g, but this costs £169
can any1 help?
