recovery CD

Hello!!!

I buy sony VAIO VGN A 417 M in germany! This sony have platform
(system) in german language! If someone have the same notebook with english platform please let me now if we can change this, or if you have any other solutions!!

I already change the system with english xp profesional windows, but now those sony programs don t work on the new system!

why you install new windows ???
you must upgrade it ... then you have Sony Vaio Tools too !

you can find Vaio Softwares here ( install your vaio utility . download it here : http://www.vaio-link.com/downloads/downloads.asp?l=en )
and and put Application Cd then back your Vaio Softwares with your Application Recovery CD !

I think you can buy a Recovery DVD in your native language. Cantact VAIO-Link for that. That should be possible.

Upgrading works like a charm - but only when you want to upgrade to an XP pro of the same language.

lasicma9 bought a Vaio with German XP and German keyboard, so installing XP pro english wont work.

Even if the support would give you english recovery discs they would be useless to you, since they work only with the english model.

My advice is to return the unit to the dealer in Germany, and buy an english unit, http://www.sonystyle-europe.com sells all european models to any european country.

Why they should not work? There is no different unless the keyboard layout, which is easy to configure. You need only to change the Z and Y button. (correct me if I'm wrong).

But changing the VAIO would be the better idea, of course.
