Hi guys and gals,
I'm really worried, for the past 4 years my laptop has had a love hate relationship with me, now I think its honestly going to die soon.
The problem is a problem has suddenly occurred where I think the fan makes a high whizzing sound, splutters and then continues to whizz instead of making a nice smooth sound. Windows runs fine, nothing is out of the ordinary, nothing crashes but the fan noise has gotten really bad and has stared spluttering more now.
Anyway I was wondering does anyone know who can fix this?, Sony I'm scared of handling this since it isn't the 1st time they bungled my lappy and now they estimate a 200 pound to fix the problem which I haven't got - seriosuly.
Does anyone or guess what is wrong
What I would try first is getting a can of compressed air (very inexpensive to get that), and with the laptop swiched off completely, spray the compressed air into the ventilation slots in the laptop and in the fan housing to dislodge the dust.
Be careful not to blast too much air into the computer to avoid breaking the fans by over-rotation of the fins.

Let me know what temperature your computer reports at rest, and then when you run some intensive programs (like DVD playback) on the laptop.

Merry Christmas to you too
