Used Restore Disks

Well,I played with my XP installation for an hour or so,then decided to do a Complete Sys Restore from the disks, just to see how it turned out.I am very happy with how sony have put this restore together. It installed with no problems at all.The only thing is it takes about 120 minutes from Boot to windows Desktop. The Restore repartitioned and put the restore patrition back. This took nearly 80 mins,Windows Setup then took another 10 mins, finaly the Application Restore took another 25 mins.It realy is a doddle. All I have too do now is uninstall the trial Apps which I have no need of.The reason I did the Restore is because,I like to experiment, its a good way to learn your System, and mostly that the Vaio is under Warrenty.Which is Important.Anyway,I do agree with the Vaio Masters on this Forum, and dont advocate tampering unless you know what your doing.Laptops are very different to Desktops in there construction, and if you get it wrong, well, thats the price you Pay.So just to finish,Well done Sony for putting together a good well thought out Software Package on these Vaios, and for putting a good machine together too.Hopefully I will never need the Warrenty.

Nice to know it all works as it should!

I wasn't having a go at you - I was just making sure everyone was aware that this process can end in tears. We don't want to encourage members to upgrade to XP Pro unless they have to (because they need to connect to a network at work using XP Pro) or they really know what they are doing.

We see so many going wrong. Anyway stick around as I'm sure we will continue to get questions on this topic.

Got to agree with you there, for the inexperienced,Computers are not for the faint hearted. My learning curve began with our first Computer,a brand new 486 with Win 3.11 and Dos 6.22.Now that was frightening, and what a Manual. It was like 'War & Peace'.How things have moved forward, and for the better may I add.Rock solid stability,Good Hardware and an OS that delivers.Cant beat it.
