I have a vaio vgn a215z and i have many problems with this pachine, the main problem is that in order to start it takes a long long time, first it has a black screen and finally it starts after almost 40 minutes. Maybe other people has the same problem with this model so because i have still a warranty i was maybe wondering to ask sony to give me a totally new machine but a different model. any suggestion?
I doubt somehow that the slow startup is anything to do with your particular model. It could be caused by a number of things including, spyware, adware, a virus checker set to run at boot or a problem service or startup program.
I would first thoroughly check your system for viruses and malware and then try re-booting.
If you still have the problem then try loading windows in Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly at boot and select the Safe Mode option). If this loads within a reasonable timescale then re-boot in both safe and Normal mode with boot logging enabled (have a look here for a guide). You can then compare both logs and determine which components are not required to start in normal mode.
Re-boot in Safe mode and disable each of the services that run in normal mode only (one at a time), followed by a re-boot in normal mode.
I know that this is a long winded process but it should hopefully identify what it is that causes the slow startup problem.
