Last december i bought a A517B VAIO and was happy with it. but now since a month my DVD-RW have a problem and my machine is getting verry hot.
The problems:
My burner isn't burning any faster asnymore than 2,4 speed. so it takes 3 hours to burn a dvd. the funny thing is that it still burns but not 8x. i tried several dvdr's and of course different brands and speeds. then i reinstalld my machine completely. but no improvement. als tryd all cinds of burning programs. roxio and ahead and alcohol120% nothing helps. i don't think it's a firmware problem couse first it was burning fast at 8x but know not annymore.
The the other problem is when i try to play a downloaded video movie or what ever it is stottering. not always, but most of the time. first in the beginning when i get the machine everything was verry fast and no problem at al with playing video all going smootly.
When i want to play a game in th ebeginning when i just get the machine. no problems at all. but know it is shokking and also the sound is stottering.
I realy want to get this solved since it's a verry expensive laptop. i think that everytnig is getting to hot inside and that why things are getting broken or something.
Please could anybody help me ?
thx,
Jeffrey
PS: I'm from Holland
anybody ???
Hi misterfun and welcome to the forum.
I am not sure whether the DVD write speed and the heat problem are related.
To get more definitive information on the general running temperature of your machine download
MobileMeter and let us know the reported temperature for both CPU and HDD.
On the DVD burn/read issue; have you tried cleaning the laser lens? There are various propriety cleaners available ranging from cleaning disks to fluids – ask for a recommendation from your local computer store.
Allright i will download the program and run it and let you know tommorow what the results are. thx for your time helping me.
Hi Jeffrey,
The stuttering of vision and sound may be related to the heat issue.
When your CPU reaches critical temperature the machine will go into passive cooling mode. This basically means that the CPU speed will decrease in an attempt to reduce the temperature. Running in this mode may very well produce the symptoms that you have described.
Hi, i have got the same notebook and i am experiencing the same problems plus I often get a white screen that forces me to shutdown when i run games or 3d applications.
Mobmeter show a temperature of 98° .
My nbook is 8 months old and i am experiencing this problem from about 2 months.
Help me!
Hi 6martina and welcome to the forum.
That is a very high temperature and passive cooling will certainly have kicked in!
I suggest that you buy a can of compressed air and clean the cooling vents.
I think also the heat can give problems. today i bought a new game but it's almost impossible to plat 'Call of Duty 2'
o this is the result from your program:
Way to hot i think.
Hi misterfun,
That is too high a temperature and as Rich has already stated will probably be the cause of your problems...
The high temperature is probably due to build up of dust, try gentry spraying your Vaio's air vents with a can of compressed air...:smileyhappy:
Well i called to the soney vaio support centre and explaind my problems. The told me that they have to pick it up and i get it back in 5 or 10 days.I still have warronty since i bought it last december. So i hope i get it back al without problems. The great thing is i don't have to look for the pakking materials. They bring a box and i don't have to give them cables or mouse.
