VGN-FJ1S booting problems

Hi there Guys,

I have a problem with my VGN-FJ1S, refusing to boot occassionally. I see the Vaio logo, and it goes no further.
At first I tried all the obvious,
- rebooted with only the AC connected, no battery
- rebooted with only the battery, no AC
- removed the battery and AC and let it sit overnight
- turned off the wireless
- Opened the DVD tray and rebooted

Its a real strange problem.
Sometimes it boots, but most often it doesnt.
I have done some investigating, and I can press F2 during boot, but it wont go in to the BIOS either, it just shows up as "Entering Setup..." along with all the drive information that you see during the boot.
Now, this is where the interesting bit happens.
Every time it gets stuck, the DVD device name looks a bit funny on the boot screen, and when it manages to actually boot, the DVD device name is fine.
For example, it says "Pioneer DVD-K1vD" instead of "Pioneer DVD-K16D" and also at the end of the name there are a number of apostrophes ( ' ) trailing the model number when its not working, but none when it does work.

Is there something wrong with my DVD thats causing this?

UPDATE:
I cannot say for certain that this is the case, but so far it seems to only behave in this way when the laptop has been shut down with Hibernate. When I do a proper Shut Down, it seems to start up just fine. To me thats good news, even though its a little annoying.
Any other ideas on what the problem could be, would be appreciated.
