I have updated my drivers for the nvidia ge force 4 mx 460 which went well no probs all, is working ok but i did notice a video bios update in the downloads section of the sony 401 page. However when i follow the instructions i can not get it to update the video bios . I get to the reboot with the dos bot floppy and it goes to the dos promt a:\ then you are supposed to type 1 for it to update. It doesnt it just says invalid command?
Any ideas would be great on this issue.
Make sure you set the floppy drive as the boot device.
Also look for any bat or exe's
Thanks for the info.
I have checked and the a drive is set to first boot.
Still no luck?
Theres no exe file when you dir on the dos boot disc either. I have also roled back to the old driver for the graphics card now as well as a few issues had cropped up with the new drivers.
I guess you can not use any new drivers until the video bios has been updated.
Still stuck on this one any more ideas?
I would have thought sony would have checked the download of this bios update to verify it did what they said it would do but not so sure.
I have downloaded it again and overwritten the info again to make sure the download was not corrupt still no luck.
No readme files around?
Nope
Have now downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia dated april2004. so far all seems to be ok.Maybe its ok just to leave the bios info as it is and just update the driver.
I wish sony would make things easier than they do.
had to update the drivers to play far cry .on the orginal sony drivers it wouldnt play on the next updated drivers dated nov203 it played but was not right.on the april2004 drivers plays ok.
I would be tempted to leave well alone.
I think you might be right.
Its all working ok with the nvidia drivers dated april 2004 so will see how it goes.
Im not sure how important it is to update the video bios but as long as its working i wont medal anymore.
Already had to remaster the vaio once this year dont want to go through all that again.
Thanks for your help.
With the latest drivers it should be fine.
Glad to hear everythings OK.
I find NVIDIA driver updates to be adequate for most of their cards.
