What DVD media for DW-D56A optical drive?

Hi,
Just explain my problem. I've burned a recovery DVD-R (TDK 1X-4X). Unreadble with a Dell Inspirion 8000, but works fine to recover my VAIO HDD. I've also burned a DVD-R (SONY 1X-16X). This time, readbale by my Dell by unreadable by my VAIO. Missing something?

iv got exactly the same problem now and have no idea what to do. My drive only plays dvd's but not cd-roms

Have you tried TDK?
