Hello,
my Z4 tablet came with officially pre-installed File Commander. This
used to be a good app. This app is installed on the system partition
so it can not be uninstalled. And I do not want to uninstall it because
this was and actually still is the only app with easy (normal) access
to SD card.
However recently this app is so loaded with ads so it became unusable.
Ads are everywhere in this app. Even confirmation dialogs after every
single file operation show ads.
This is a nightmare.
Is Sony getting revenue from those ads so it forces us to use this crap?
What other app can you suggest with easy access to SD card?
I just want to copy, move and delete files. Not use some sofisticated
API stuff or dig for halt and hour in settings to find stock android file
manager.
C'mon Sony?
Hi @awionetka,
File Commander is not our app or developed by us, so I am sorry to say that I can not answer for the changes made in the app. This feedback is best sent to the app developer, you may find contact information in the Google Play Store under the "Developer" section: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobisystems.fileman&hl=en
According to the description of the app in the Google Play Store, you may purchase the File Commander Premium version in order to have an ad-free version.
However, you may also use the built in file manager which can be found under Settings > Storage > Internal or SD card > Explore, here you may select files for transferring, copying and deleting in an ad-free environment.
Let me know if that helps!
Why would I pay for premium version when I already paid for tablet in the first
place?
You, Sony, made a choice of this app and you, Sony, preinstalled it system-wide.
You made a choice so it cannot be uninstalled.
For a long time this was the only app with write access to SD card and it was your,
Sony, choice.
(before times when file manager API was made available and before file manager
was added to stock android).
I had and still have android devices from most main vendors since 2009 - LG,
Samsung, HTC, Motorola. None of the system-installed apps had ads. None. Never.
Only from Sony.
You, Sony, are responsible for your choices.
Pls close thead.
ps. btw, 2+ years ago I had Sony Z3 with file commander - it had no ads.
I understand how you feel and I will make sure to forward it internally on your behalf as user feedback.
As I mentioned, you may use the built-in file browser to avoid ads - but the feedback towards File Commander is best raised directly with the app developer.
hi Emir:
I am also very disappointed with the ads in File Comander. I tried Explore but i could´nt with sgp712 wifi.
Hi @obaldenebro, I just had a look in an Xperia Z4 Tablet running Android 7 and the option was available. Could you describe in a little more detail what you mean when you write "but I couldn't"?
Let me know and I'll do my best to assist you!
Hi Emir:
In my xperia Z4 tablet, wifi, sgp 712 running android 5.0.2, the option storage/internal-SD/explore is not available. the use of android 5.0.2 is because there has not been notification to apdate to nougat. local support said !I have to wait for the notification!
thanks
I see, unfortunately the built-in file manager is not introduced until a later Android version. However, you may still download an alternative through the Google Play store!
This must be one of the top 3 best file managers on the market:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alphainventor.filemanager
Im using it on all our 5 devices.
Hi @corben, interesting app! I have not heard of it before, but it seems fairly popular with about 200,000 downloads and great scores! I'll keep it in mind should I be on the hunt to try something new as far as file managers go.
