Cannot update software, please help.

Hi all,

I just got a laptop, so this was the first time I could connect my Xperia S to the computer using the PC companion software.
Now I'm trying to update to the lastest software, but I get stuck at this stage:

I follow the instructions exactly, but at the last stage, where I plug the USB while holding the button, nothing happens. The phone remains off and the PC companion doesnt seem to advance to the next part, "updating". I'm just stuck in the "prepare" stage.

Please help.
Thank you in advance.

Make sure the phone has usb debugging mode enabled(settings-developer options). Also, you could reinstall PCC.

Does your phone connect properly, is there any drivers missing...

Try using another Update Service called SUS, Find link below...

Hi, thanks for the fast reply! All this stuff is very frustrating..

I've tried both your suggestions and none of them work.
As I keep the volume button down and plug in the USB, nothing more happens than the normal battery charging sign.

Any other suggestions???

The correct order is:keep vol down while connecting the phone to the usb(the usb is connected to your laptop all this time)

Hi thanks for the good alternative answer.

I've tried it and still, the same exact problem.
I do press the vol down button before plugging the cable, but again, nothing happens.
There is no NEXT button.

What to do, I dont want to be unable to ever update my software..

Yeah, tried with the SUS, excellent suggestion.
The cable is fine, it works for any other purposes.

This is very strange, looks like the phone drivers are not correctly installed on your computer. What windows are you using?
