Google Play message

My Z has started displaying a google play message "item not found - retry? " This is the first screen that comes up whenever I log into the phone. No amount of retries will find the item. If I back arrow the normal google play home screen comes up. How can I work out what "item" it is looking for?

PS. I have restarted the phone and removed the last couple of apps installed, restarted all google apps, cleared cache etc, but the message still comes up.Any ideas?

its an update

open the play store > menu > settings > uncheck auto update apps unless you want google to update your phone's apps as soon as there's an update.

Thanks uliwooly. That will stop the message, but is there any easy way to determine which particular update is causing the problem ?

open the play store > menu > my apps > check which app needs to be updated

Thanks uliwooly I did as you suggested, but no apps showed as needing an update. I disabled auto updates, as you suggested, and have been doing updates manually without any problem.

The play store error message " item not found - retry" is still coming up whenever the phone has been idle for any length of time.

When browsing within the play store I freqently get messages saying "no network connection - retry". After a number of retries google play responds. Other apps access the internet without problems and my data connection is fine. Any ideas?

Thanks Uliwooly, I already tried uninstalling updates, but the message still showed up. Tried it again just to make sure.

There doesn't seem to be any way to check what item it's looking for and I don't want to do a factory reset for a minor annoyance!

that's really odd, I wonder which app is doing this, could it be an app that you have disabled?

The only disabled app is "Voice Dialer" , but I have re-enabled it a number of times to ensure it's not causing this problem.
