IMPOSSIBLE TO RECORD DVD+R

Hello, yesterday I tried to record some data on a DVD+R (it was the first time, casually I did use always DVD-R) with my VAIO PCG-GRT996VP and I discovered it was impossible. I tried using Nero 6.3, Drag'n'Drop and WinXP. How is it possible? The manual, the sony site and the OS assure it should be possible...but it doesn't really work. Could it be a problem of drivers or firmware? Where can I download updates? thanks to anyone who will help me....

Kee-Lo, try to explane this simple thing to SONY . When I asked them they told me "Only dvd+r discs up to maximum x4 speed will be recognized on your Vaio. It is normal than the Vaio can not use dvd+r x8 discs, for example". For me it was fist "surprise" from e-support.

LOL they don't understand the "CERTIFIED" bit on the box then... Means it'll work at 1x, 2x, 4x on VAIOs and drives which support 8x will also do 8x

Unfortunatly the problem is much bigger: on the DVD SONY DW-U54A you just CAN NOT use 1-8x DVD to write on. The same disks you can use successfuly on other different DVD drives writing with different speed (I tried PIONER with maximum speed 2,4x and it works perfect). I had the hope that SONY would release some firmware to update, but after I've read a bit on this forum I don't have this hope any more :slight_frown: :slight_frown: I was costricted to bye 30 DVD 1-4x only to have some store. May be it will be usefull to try different brands (I have tried only verbatim and TDK). But it becames a bit expensive.

That's a real pain - Sony need to release a firmware
