I have a a month old S4XP with XP which also has Adobe Acrobat Elements on it. When I was installing my printer software I saw an printer icon for Adobe PDF and thought it was for another printer which I didn't need. So I stupidly deleted it.
When I tried to use Acrobat Elements a couple of weeks later, I was told it could not find something to function and I suddenly remembered what I had deleted.
So I did a system restore back to the time before I deleted it and now the Adobe Elements is working fine but the system is very slow and I cannot send or receive emails in Outlook 2003 and get the following message.
[Name of account] Receiving reported error 0X8004210A: 'The operation times out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message contact your server administrator or internet service provider (ISP).'
I have another computer which does receive emails, so it's not to do with the ISP. Can anyone help?

Hi
If you are running Norton disable email scanning temporarily to see if Norton is the problem.
Yeah adobe doesn't like being moved around I have had to do two complete recoverys because of adobe programs stuffing things up. Try Tuneup utilities (it has a trial version) it may repair the your errant system but I fear you may need to recover from my experiences. Alway keep files on the D drive also.
Hi,
Tried turning the email scanning off but it made no difference. Thing is the Outlook worked fine until I did the restore. And then it went wrong. So it didn't go wrong because of the Adobe Acrobat Elements. I only did the system restore to get back the Adobe PDF printer software which I had deleted. Appreciate anybody's advice on this.
hi just out of intrest does the bottom right of the laptop get very hot?
Any programs that don't function reinstall
Hi ant1uk,
Well it's not the coolest of machines heatwise. I wouldn't actually use it on my lap for long periods. I haven't actually thought about which side is hotter. Does it have any significance? I did have have an SX2, the screen of which went kaput after a few months. I had a lot of aggro with the call centre after that but Sony in Weybridge finally came good and offered me the top of the range SX4 which was delivered to me as soon as they had delivery. I think it's got a slightly better battery life than SX2, although I haven't scientifically tested it ie I can't remember exactly how long the SX2 lasted to compare. Screen is still terrific
Hi Tony,
So guess a reinstall is the only answer? Thanks for your help. Do you know how I save my Outlook stuff before i do the reinstall?
funny you say that, i had an a series 215z and the screen went on it, it went to france and the part took months to come in so i was offered the s3 by sony uk (matt) which i got four months ago, on this model i notice this gets very warm at the bottom right, sometimes its just warm then other times its almost to hot to touch, i been doing some research, they have similer s models in the states but with different model numbers, i seen alot of feedback that these s series are very hot machines.
i was just wondering if sony had overcome this yet with the s4 model?
I've just had a feel beneath my laptop. Yes, the right hand side is noticeably warmer than the left. I say "warmer" because it isn't hot. Do you know exactly what causes this?
The screen on the other one (SX2) went literally overnight. I was using it one night but when I turned it on the next day, it was as if someone had thrown a grey shroud over the screen.
