Help needed. My TouchPad and Mouse both perform the same strange behaviours on a left click. On desktop left clicking a shortcut will bring up the delete shortcut dialog box, in Firefox (not tried on IE) clicking left in the url entry box sets off deletion of all text entry. In Mozilla Thunderbird it wipes all email entries (one character at a time so you can watch it disappear).
I've run antivirus, spy and adware and turned nothing up. Updated the ALPS with the latest available on the support site and done a system restore back a month or so (before the problem occured) but it still persists.
Recent downloads include VideoLan, and the Windows Genuine Advantage.
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi GoWright,
Have you tried resetting the mouse settings to default, this can be done by going to Start > Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Mouse, a new window opens Mouse Properties...:smileyconfused:
Thanks Thalamus (also for your note in other thread, apologies again). Yes I've used the default settings also to no avail. This one is a real head scratcher.
Have you tried going to Device Manager and uninstalling the mouse drivers, then reboot your Vaio let the drivers reinstall..:smileyconfused:
Yeah I've tried all the obvious solutions but whilst I'm fairly confident I'm no expert. I'm verring towards there being something untoward lurking in my boot sector.
Hi GoWright,
This is a strange one...
Do you get the delete option all of the time or only in certain programs?
Also do your mouse left button have the same settings in Safe Mode (when starting your Vaio press F8 repeatedly to enter safe mode)..?
The only programme that seems unaffected by this is IE (I have beta for 7) where the url box doesn't seem to get hit with this. It is also happening in safe mode, has me perplexed. I would have guessed at one of my kids accidentally creating a key stroke shortcut for the left click but since it seems to work OK in IE that seems unlikely. It seems to be a repeating delete command rather than a one off as I have to constantly close the delete dialog box. It does seem with some panicked pressing of buttons though that pressing the space bar halts the process. Does this provide any clues?
