Touchpad problem on VGN-FE21B

Why does my touchpad not work anymore, all at once???

I have a wireless usb mouse connected to my vaio. the mouse and the touchpad worked both contemporary without problems. all at once the touchpad does not work anymore. i tried everything that was described in the documentation. but nothing worked. i also checked the BIOS but there was no hint about the touchpad.

Is there anybody who had the same problem?

thanx for your help:smileyhappy:

Hi phoenix18

What hardware is listed in the Mice and other pointing devices section in Device manager...?

hi thalamus,
there is only the indication "HID conform mouse" thats all.
the mouse that i have attached externally is a Microsoft USB wireless optical mouse. the mouse works properly. the thing is that when i remove the mouse then the touchpad is also not available. even when you start up the computer without the connected mouse.
thanx and have a nice day

Hi phoenix18,

I think that's your problem, you should have an Alps Pointing Device mouse driver installed on your FE21B...:smileyhappy:

Goto Device Manager, double click Mouse and Other Pointing Devices.

Then right click once on HID conform mouse and select properties.

Select the 'Driver' tab and click on Update driver.

A new Hardware Update Window will appear, select Install from a list or specific location (advanced) and click next

The window now changes select 'Don't search I will choose the driver to install' and click next.

If 'Alps Pointing-device' (possibly Alps Pointing-device for Vaio) appears in the new window, select it and click next.. (if the 'Alps Pointing-device' does not appear in the list remove the tick from 'Show Compatible Hardware' and select Alps Electric from the Manufacturer column then 'Alps Pointing-device' (possibly Alps Pointing-device for Vaio) from the model column and then click next.
