I'm just getting used to this new laptop and I'm a bit concerned that the light on the front indicating drive activity is coming on rather a lot.
If the machine is just stood idle (no screensaver on) while I do work nearby, the light flashes on and off almost continually, well at least every 10 seconds or so.
Is this normal for this model or is there something I should be looking to stop from working.
I've done the thing with msconfig and knocked a few things off there and my startup is as I want it.
What else can I do, any ideas?

Snowball.
If you open windows task manager (Ctrl Alt Delete) > Processes you should see what is using CPU resources.
The only item with a value was System Idle Process which showed 98.
Yet at the bottom where it says CPU Usage is a figure moving between 0% 2% and 4%.
Hello Thalamus,
Thanks for the reply.
Checking with Task Manager didn't really help me much as looking at the CPU column didn't show anything but a lot of noughts.

The Mem Usage column I'm afraid doesn't mean anything to me as I'm a complete novice at computers.
If it helps you, there were some high numbers on six names.
They are 19+K on CCAPP.exe, 13+K on VzCdbSvc.exe, 13+K on sqlservr.exe, 17+K on Explorer, 23+K on svchost.exe, 11+K on gcasDtServ.exe.
I tried stopping a few things with the help of Google searches but nothing stopped the Drive light from flashing.
One thing I can't seem to get rid of is MSMSGS.exe.
I've been into Add/Remove Window Components and unticked Windows Messenger but it still appears in the the Task Manager.
It would be interesting to hear from anyone else with the same model to see if they have the same HDD light flicker.

My internet connection is Broadband and yes it is on constantly through a Belkin router wirelessly from my Desktop.
Do you think this is whats causing the light to come on so much?
