Why a partitioned drive? Why so little space?

Hello, i recently bought an FS215B, and i have to say i am very disappointed by the hard drive. It's supposedly 60GB (i know you have to allow for the OS etc) First of all it's partitioned. Why is that? Secondly it's more like 35 GB. My C drive's total size is 27.9 GB, yet there is only 14GB free!!! How much rubbish is on there! My D Drive has 20.9 GB, and has that all free. I feel very cheated indeed.

It may say that it has a 60gb drive but as with all types of storage it is less after formatting ie. 1gb memory stick after formatting has 947mb and all VAIOs come with a partitioned drive C:\ and D:\.I think the D:\ partition by default is used by the built in sony applications such as Sonicstage ect.

There's probably also a hidden partition.
The actual space on a 60GB is something like 56.9GB when formatted using Windows.

That's what i would expect. However it doesn't look that way.

I recall when I first unpacked my 60 gig harddrive Vaio that there was a considerable amount of rubbish on the HD( maybe your Vaio is detecting that moreso). When I defragmented it eliminated this but it took hours Defragging over and over till it was sorted. The other thing is you can get Partition Pro and give yourself a larger C Drive partition or just one. However The reason you have two drives is purely for speed and system recovery. D drive is your essencial documents storage (so keep documents you need there) and C is your program files OS. I always thought 20 gig would be sufficient as a C drive partition but it depends what your software requirements are.

Yes but you are rich and have an A317S, so I've heard:smileytongue:

Hmmm, if oyu need more space, uninstall useless crappy sonyu software like VAIO-zone.
