Tethering error after Lollipop update

Hello everyone.

Before updating to lollipop, i used the tethering option frequently without any issue. The moment the update completed, every time i turn on tethering, a window appears saying "Tethering error". If i then try to connect another device via tethering, it connects fine but cannot receive data. Any help with this?

Thanks in advance

Hi. No fix exist, you have 3 options.

1) Wait Sony fix relase (mybe 6 months)

2) Downgrade to kitekat (at your risk)

3) Try it https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.tether&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%2...

Contact your carrier over the problem.I know with 3 UK on lollipop you have 2 lots of APN settings.Of which one is a hotspot one

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

I actually followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/lollipop-tethering-t3058923 and the issue is now resolved, tested it and now it works fine!!

Try it if you have any similar problems with tethering in lollipop

I'm glad to hear that you found a solution for the issue.

May i ask you to send a private message to me with your phones IMEI, which country you're in and which operator you use?

I can confirm the exact same behavior -> i've been tethering regularly with my Z1 on KitKat since the day I bought it.  Suddenly once Lollipop was updated, i got the exact same error.

In Canada, Carrier = Rogers, Xperia Z1 on Android 5.0.2 (Build 14.5.A.0.242)

The solution listed on the other posts (using 15 second ADB, and settings put global tether_dun_required 0) worked like a charm.

Obviously i'd like to see Sony come out with an actual fix.. but this got me going again.

Thanks for posting the solutions..

Try this before anything else: go to Settings / Wireless & Networks / more / Mobile networks / access point names / press the three dots on the top right then reset to defaults. Turn tethering off then on and try again. Good luck
