WiFi Direct - Useless in Xperia Z

The main benefit of WiFi Direct is to transfer large files to anothet device with high speeds. Now Xperia Z has provided a menu for it but its totally a gimmick. Can somebody enlighten me why on earth they have given this feature when it can't give or take files from another device?  This is a shame that so much expensive phone doesn't support such a common and useful feature. What is the use of WiFi Direct in this phone?  Somehow I managed the absence of native video calls in Xperia phonrs but now WiFi Direct ? Comeon Sony are you kidding me? As I have spent a huge amounton this phone so I expect an explanation from you guys!

Well....i started this topic that WiFi Direct doesn't work on Xperia while transferring files. Today one of my friend suggested me an app which i have tried and i certainly hope that this will end the problem. Please click here :-

This app is fantastic and above all you can transfer almost any kind of stuff between android phones of any make. Give it a try. The sending Party has to click Send button while the other party has to click Receive.

Enjoy !

From what i can find, the phone supports WiFi Direct but it doesn't have any preinstalled app for sending/receiving files using it. If you search for WiFi Direct in Google Play there are several apps for sending/receiving files using it.

There is no app available which send and receives the data from other device through WiFi Direct like Samsung Phones does. Have you tried to send a 200MB file through this technology ? The transfer completes in a few minutes.

Exctly.....i wonder why Sony forgot to include file transfer protocol in it. The software that advice works provided that In order to use this app, your computer and your phone need to be on the same local area network. While in Samsung Phones for example Note 2 doesn't need that kind of condition. There it works like Bluetooth. just start WiFi Direct in both phones and transfer the file. It's very vvery speedy.

One way to utilize the wi-fi direct feature on Sony Xperia Z is to install or your phone might have already installed the apps File Commander and OfficeSuite. First go to the File Commander, tap and hold on the file you want to send/transfer, select Send file. It will show many options Bluetooth, Gmail, Messaging but what you need to select is OfficeSuite Wi-Fi Direct. It will show you Wi-Fi Direct is currently disabled and you have to Enable by tapping the Settings. Select the device from the list to transfer the previously selected file and YOU ARE DONE!

I have the same problem and I do not understand how it is possible thata such phone has the problem. I talked to sony support and they know of this problem is inconceivable that a smartphone as xperia has this bug and you need to install a third-party application that goes to limit its use.
