Sony DVD RW DW-D56A Driver problems!!

Hi,

I have just checked my device manager because I was just looking about on my laptop and I noticed that windows has Identified a problem with my Optical Drive. The device manager tells me

"Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)"

There is an update for this driver on my update link, so I downloaded the update and tried running it but it told me

"No Supported Drive Detected"

Does anyone know what is going on here?
As far as I know it's working ok but I dont want to leave it with this problem.

Please can anybody help me?

Thanks

Andy

To compound matters, I can't get onto the e-support, when I try and register as a new user it tells me I am already registered, when I put my e-mail address in for forgotten login and password details it says my e-mail isn't on the system.

Arrrgghhhhh,

Try booting into safe mode to see if you can see the drive.

Hi Kee-Lo,
I tried this and the device manager told me the drive was ok. I am presuming one of the updates I have installed is the culprit. I have been advised by Sony to do a system restore, so unfortunately this is what I am going to do :slight_frown:

Thanks Rich, and Kee-Lo,

I tried all I could think of, I eventually have had to perform a system recovery or restore which ever it is and now it is working as usual, a noisy lil thing. Now I just have the annoying task of getting all the stuff I saved back onto the computer

Thanks for the help though

Andy

You would be better advised to first try removing the the drive in device manager and then re-boot (or scan for hardware changes) to let Windows discover the drive and re-install the drivers.
