Sony VP - Not a happy bunny

Hi there all. I'm really in need of help. I'm not sure if I have a problem with the VP or Sonic Stage but I'm not having a good time.

Basically, I have had it since Friday and have not had a chance to listen to any music yet. (£200 from dixons!!!)

I have found that I can quite easily import files into sound stage and am able to playback files from this program (actually its easy to use). However, when I come to try and transfer anything onto the VP, the system looks like its doing it but in the end I just get a message saying that xyz file was not transfered (xyz = all). This has even happened with a CD I have just put straight into SS...

I have windows XP lates updates installed and SS 3.1 so I cant really figure out the problem. I'm not sure if its simething I'm doing or if the VP I have is a dud......

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anthony

Why are you on SS3.1???

I'm not even sure that works with the VAIO!

You should be on SS 2.3 AND YOU MUST upgrade to latest firmware for that to work and also VAIO transfer....

I'd rub it all out and start again !!!!!

Go here

As far as I am aware 3.1 works with the VP, reset your VP & as above reinstall the firmware, have you checked your firewall settings & can you get info from Gracenote (CD Info)??

Looks the firewall is ok, teh titling is working automatically.

Seems everything goes wrong at the transfer stage.

By resetting the the VP, did you mean formatting the HDD and using the insert - makes you update G settings and tine etc?

Mmmh, If you want reset the VP, then you must click the button which you can find in a tiny hony on the VP. (correct me if I'm wrong)

the reset button is what you need, tiny hole on side of player, Seb is right, wipe the thing clean!!

Just to be clear, the VP works fine with SonicStage 3.1.

I do support the comments that recommend you reset the device. This will resolve any hardware problems with the VP.

Additionally you will want to re-intialise the connection from SS:

Controls / Device/Media / Initialise

If this does not work, then format the VP from the player menu.

I think its dead.......

I have re-set, tested, Formatted and tested and have had no change......

I have also tried to re-initialise the sound stage but nothing.... I get the message initialisation of the device failed?

Hardware prob?

Hi could be that it is broken, have you tried the Vaio music transfer software? And this this gave the same result? If so your VP is broken I guess.

IOtherwise start by formatting the VP, install the new firmware (if you didn't do that already, I can't read you did??) . Delete SS from the computer and also remove the windows\program files \sony ... directory and files do this also for the filse's in windows\program files ]common\sony... (this directory contains the libraries)

Now start to onstall SS2.1 from the original CD, update it to 2.3 that you can download just as the firmware here after a few reboots install SS 3.1 (it should only install about SS files not directx 9.x for example (if it does that you lost a step) after this it should work fine. If it still not work bring it back.

good luck,

Jeroen
